Radiant Floor Insulation
What Is Radiant Floor Insulation And Why Do
We Need It?
The global population is becoming more and more aware of what it is doing to the environment.
Furthermore, the increasing media coverage of the same subject and the rising threat of fast depleting energy
sources are making people nervous all over the world. This has resulted in two things.
The first is that the common man is becoming more aware of what his actions mean for the
environment while the second is that the costs of anything even vaguely dependent on energy consumption are
increasing at an alarming rate
These two inclinations have lead to the common man looking for ways to make their energy usage
as efficient as possible. One of the best ways to make your whole heating system extremely efficient is using
radiant floor insulation.
For people living in cold regions, it is only logical to worry about the heating costs of their
houses and the kind of impact the same is having on the environment. If you are one such person then it would not
be surprising if you are worried about the same issues and are looking for ways to remedy them. For the sake of
your benefit the following is some information that should help you reduce your heating costs while, at the same
time, help the environment.
What is the solution?
Flooring is one of those components of the house that shoulder a lot of blame for heat
dissipation. Even though most of the newer homes and apartments in colder regions now come equipped with radiant
floor insulation, older homes more likely do not have it.
What are the benefits?
The benefits of radiant insulation, as you have probably already surmised, are twofold. First is
the fact that when you use floor insulation, you basically ensure that you lose less heat. This means that you burn
less fuel which, in turn, reduces the total emissions resulting from your actions.
On a different path, when you burn less fuel, you save a lot of money which would otherwise
literally be dissipating into air. Similarly, if you are in an area that has particularly hot summers, then this
kind of insulation would prevent more than 97 percent of heat from entering your house.
What is the best type of radiant floor insulation?
It is believed that the best form of floor insulation is reflective insulation. Reflective
insulation is done through the installation of radiant foil. Of all the heat insulation materials like fiberglass,
cellulose foam and reflective foil, reflective foil has the best performance because it can hold off 97 percent of
heat loss or gain in a structure. On the other hand, the other materials would do well with conductive and
convective heat but would fail miserably in keeping radiant heat trapped.
Hence, as is more than apparent from the above mentioned information, even if you have some form
of floor insulation, you are going to need to install special equipment for radiant floor insulation. However, this
does not mean that you will have to spend through your nose because reflective foil insulation is easily affordable
and easy to install.
